The sales process is a fraction of marketing. Marketing creates awareness and desire to purchase a product or service. Sales is the transaction of goods and services in exchange for money. Sales and marketing training is designed to give you the skills you need to communicate the benefits of your product and service and to respond to a potential customer's buying signals.
To sell high value commodity product or technical product requires specific skill sets and coaching. These skills can be applied to every conceivable service, commodity or product. These skills are highly transferable between different industry sectors and service suppliers.
After your Sales and Marketing Training
After sales and marketing training, the first task is to research the market, then promote and sell yourself. Many companies have a sales force, and it is often easier to join the sales force as a first career step. You could then work your way up through the marketing department once you have established your credentials. Alternatively, you may be offered a marketing assistant position. This is mainly administrative in nature and you would be expected to carry out tasks under the direct supervision of a senior colleague. If you choose the sales route, you could become a sales manager, regional manager and ultimately a sales director of a company.
